The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), a national organization supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs), hosted its second annual RISE Homecoming 2k21 (RISE HC2k21). This virtual concert and fundraiser aimed to uphold the legacy of HBCU culture while adapting to a virtual format due to pandemic restrictions. TMCF is renowned for its support to the Black College community, offering scholarships, skill development, and career opportunities to nearly 300,000 students.

Challenge
Chosen Few Media, in collaboration with Burns Brothers Agency and TMPAV, was tasked with the production of the 2021 RISE 2k21 Virtual Concert and Fundraiser. The goal was to create a virtual concert that not only celebrated the HBCU community but also felt as dynamic and engaging as a live concert event. The project involved multifaceted challenges including film production, creative and production design, and lighting design for star-studded performances.

Approach
Film Production:
Multi-Camera Setup: Utilized a five-camera array, including three handheld cameras, one steadicam, and one jib, to ensure dynamic coverage from multiple angles.
Creative Direction: Focused on capturing the energy and vibrancy of live performances, directing acts like Migos, Moneybagg Yo, Justine Skye, and Sevyn Streeter.
Production Design:
LED Panels: Integrated over 200 panels to create an immersive set.
Custom Graphics: Developed motion graphics and projection mapping to enhance the virtual concert experience.
Lighting: Employed concert-style lighting with intelligent movers and operated by a skilled lighting designer to mimic the ambiance of a live concert.

Results
The RISE 2K21 Virtual Concert and Fundraiser was a resounding success. Through Chosen Few Media’s expertise, the event replicated the excitement of a live concert, bringing together the HBCU community in a unique virtual setting. The production quality heightened the viewer's experience, making them feel part of a live event. Dr. Harry L. Williams, President & CEO of TMCF, praised the event for its ability to keep traditions alive in a virtual space while raising record-breaking funds.
